Sanity-check any receiver with −174 dBm/Hz
At 290 K, thermal noise is −174 dBm in every hertz of bandwidth. Add 10·log10(B), the noise figure, and the SNR your demodulator needs, and you have the receiver's sensitivity.
Pmin ≈ −174 + 10·log10(B) + NF + SNRmin dBm
Useful bandwidth values to remember: 1 MHz is 60 dB, 20 MHz is 73 dB, 100 MHz is 80 dB, 1 GHz is 90 dB.
